About Us

Genealogical research in Ukraine and across the post-Soviet region

My name is Oleksandr Kartashov. I am a historian by training and a professional genealogist. I help people reconstruct their family history in Ukraine and across the wider post-Soviet region using archival and civil records.
My principle is simple: documents first, assumptions second. I build each case as a verifiable chain of evidence—showing where every fact comes from, how it connects to other records, what remains uncertain, and how we can confirm it.
The outcome is a clear, structured research report with copies of the discovered documents and full source references. This way, your family history becomes not just a story, but a reliable foundation you can preserve and expand over time.

I work with civil registration records, church books, pre-revolutionary sources, military documentation, and Soviet-era materials. If you only have fragments—several names, approximate dates, family legends—that is enough to start. We will gather evidence and rebuild the picture step by step.

Our story

My path into genealogy began with historical studies and a strong interest in biographical research—understanding individual lives within their historical context. For me, it has never been only about “finding a record”, but about seeing how family, community, social status, and major events of an era shaped a person’s life.
After graduating in 2015, I started working with archival sources and gradually developed an approach that combines academic rigor with a respectful attitude toward family memory. Over time, this work grew into a project-based practice: depending on the task, I involve archivists, professional genealogists, and specialists who help present results in a format that is convenient for the family—an analytical report, a family tree, a book, or a structured archive dossier.
